“THE GIRL FRIEND”

There was a large demand for seats yesterday morning for the J. C. Williamson musical comedy season, which begins With the matinee on Boxing afternoon at the Grand Opera House, when there will be presented for the first time the latest London musical comedy success, “The < Girl Friend,” with the favourite London star, Annie Croft, in the leading role. Annie Croft came to Australia with a big London reputation, and her immediate success in Sydney and Melbourne fully justified all the glowing preliminary accounts of her charm and personality. The company supporting includes Reginald Sharland and Leo Franklyn, both with English reputations. Other, popular artists in the cast are Gus Bluett, May Beatty, and her daughter, Bunny, Alary Rigby, James Hughes, Les Donaghey, Jack Dunne, Winnie-Tate, and the fascinating chorus and ballet of Australasian youth and beauty. The fact that Annie Croft achieved one of her most brilliant triumphs in Sydney in “The Girl Friend,” has naturally had the effect of making playgoers keen to see her in this production. The scenery and dressing are features of the production. "The Girl Friend” will be followed by a naval musical comedy. "Hit the Deck.” There is plenty of comedy and big song hits, together with a love interest and a dramatic story that keeps the play moving rapidly. The box plans are now open at the Bristol.
