OUTSTANDING GRADE COW The following letter has been received bv the New Zealand Friesian Association from Mr. A. R. Weal, of Pukeatua, Te Awamutu: —“I notice in the September issue of the ‘N.Z. Dairyman' that a grade Jersey cow put up a record of 105.2251 b. butter-fat for 30 days, and this is claimed to be a record or close to one for a grade cow. Last season, during October, one of my grade Friesians produced 105.841 b. butter-£at in 30 days, giving 3141 b. milk of a morning and ol| lb. at night with a 5.6 test. This test was taken by the testing officer of the Waikato Valley Herd Testing Association. The cow was machine milked and ran with a herd of 65 cows, which were all fed on pasture grass only. Shortly after this test I dehorned this cow, and she was bad for some time after, which considerably affected her season’s record. However, her final figures were 541.221 b. fat in 261 days.”
