DIPLOMAS OF AGRICULTURE

NORTH ISLAND STUDENTS SUCCESSFUL.

The presentation of diplomas at Canterbury Agricultural College, which, was made to-day on the occasion of the tanners’ annual field day, showed the extent to which the college is being utilised by students from distant parts ot the Dominion. Of 15 diplomas awarded no fewer than seven went to students from outside the province, North Island districts represented being Stratford, Mataiuata, and Wairoa, other outside localities being Heriot (South Otago), Dunedin, Marlborough, and Nelson. The college, under the assistance provided recently by the Government, has extended its activities, and a much increased amount of research work is now being conducted in regard to wheat, cocksfoot, red elover, and ryegrass; Annual nutrition is also receiving close attention, and definite results have been produced in regard to economic pasturing and feeding of sheep and pigs. The new laboratory in connection with wheat research is now well on the way to completion.
