NEWS AND NOTES OF INTEREST The Wadestown Progressive Association last night decided to ask the City Council to provide a swimming pool' below the entrance to Wilton's Bush at the most suitable site between Wilton’s Bush and the Black bridge. J. Blyth, a City Council workman, employed at Scorching Bay, had the first and second toes of his right foot crushed yesterday afternoon by a iray. The injured man, who resides it No. 36 Totara Road, Miramar, was ■emoved to the hospital by the Free Ambulance. Through falling off a large benzine tank, V. Bannister, residing at No. 297 Willis Street, a sheet-metal worker, sprained his right knee yesterday afternoon. Bannister, who is employed by Hamilton and McNeill, was taken by the Free Ambulance to Dr. Richards for treatment. The Wadestown and Highland Park Progressive Association decided last night to affiliate with the Civic league, and Messrs. Stone and Herd were appointed delegates. The Wellington Rotary Club yesterday gave a luncheon to close on 100 “orphans. An excellent meal was provided for the children, songs were sung and presents were distributed to the little guests in order to .gladden their hearts at Christmas time. Holly I;odge No. 14. U.A.0.D., Johnsonville, held its fortnightly meeting on Saturday last. The Lodge was favoured with a visit of Bro. Jackson, vice Grand President, and officers and members of Lind Lodge Palmerston North, with whom a friendly ritual contest had been arranged. After a keen contest Holly Lodge were declared winners by a small margin. Large deputations from the various city lodges attended, including the officers of the R.A. Chapter. Later n the evening occasion was taken to iresent to Holly Lodge the shield won ,iy them in the recent ritual contest, tiro. Austin, R.A.D., in making the presentation, complemented the lodge on a really fine performance. The retiring Arch Druid Bro. C. Reeves was presented with his P.A. collar and diploma, after which a pleasant supper was served by the lady members of the lodge.
