LATE NEWS

THE KING’S ILLNESS SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT CONTINUES YESTERDAY’S BULLETIN (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) (Rec. December IS, 1.30 a.m.) London, December 17. A bulletin issued at 10.45 a.m. states:—“The King had a fair night, with some natural sleep towards morning. The slight improvement in His Majesty’s condition noted yesterday continues.” The bulletin is signed by Sir Stanley Hewett, Sir Hugh Rigby, and Lord Dawson. SANDERS CUP SELECTION -0 MORE TRIALS MAY BE NECESSARY At last night’s meeting of the Yacht and .Motor Boat Association, the action of the selector, Mr. F. W. France, in placing Wellesley I and Clyde on the “hard” for to-night’s Sanders Cup trial, came in for considerable criticism. It was stated that as a reality only three of the races sailed by the Jellicoe boats could be regarded as genuine trials it was unfair to eliminate the other two contestants. This, it was stated, looked very much as though the selector was going by wins, whereas crews were a consideration, as well as boats. Another point was that in the minute dealing with Sanders Cup trials it was stated Hint five or fewer trials must be held, pne of which must be over the Evans Bay course and another over a course between Somes Island and the “blinker.” As no race has been held over the latter course, it was impossible for any elimination to be thought of as yet. On the motion of Mr. Webb, it was decided that the number of races should be increased to ten or less, according to the wish of the selector, the original motion being rescinded.
