the cork with the coin downwards, he thrust the two forks into it (one on either side) in an upward direction, at an angle of 30 degrees, to the centre of the cork. Then he brought the edge of the coin carefully down upon the point of the needle and spun it round at great speed.
The Family Party. While the sixpence was spinning round he explained the peculiar family party to which he had referred. He was a widower with a daughter and sister. The old gentleman and his father 'who was also a widower) married two sisters (the wife of the old gentleman having a daughter by a former husband) ; the old gentleman thus became his father’s brother-in-law. The old gentleman’sTirother married the old chap’s step-daughter, thus he became his brother’s father-in-law. The old chap’s father-in-law married the old gentleman’s sister, and the old gentleman thus became his father-in-law’s brother-in-law. The old gentleman’s brother-in-law married the old gentleman’s daughter, whereby the old gent became his brother-in-law’s father-in-law. This took some thinking out. but we all saw eventually that he himself had filled all the four characters mentioned. A Clever Riddle. “Now,” said he, “I will give you■ The riddle of riddles —it leaps and if skips, ’Tis seen in the eyes and it cheats on the lips; It seldom is found, though ofttimes read.
