Cabled news has been received by the Union Company that the Waiotapu left Calcutta on Saturday for I’enaiig and Singapore to complete loading for Lyttelton, Timaru, Dunedin, Bluff, Wellington, and Auckland. She is due at Lyttelton about the middle of January. MAUNGANUI FOR SYDNEY. Bound from Sydney to Wellington, the Union liner Maunganui has reported bj' wireless that she expects to arrive in the stream at 5 o’clock tills morning. The vessel will berth at No. 1 north Queen’s Wharf shortly before 9 o'clock. The Maunganui is scheduled to leave again at 3 p.m. on Thursday on her return trip to Sydney, where she is due uext Monday morning. THE FIRST UNITED STATES SHIP LOAN. In spite of the cost, the United States Shipping Board is pressing forward its shipbuilding policy (states the "Shipping World”). It Ims agreed to lend the Export Steamship Corporation three-fourths of the cost of building four passenger and cargo vessels, which will be operated on the New York-Mediterranean service. Tenders have already 'been invited. The vessels will be of 82,U00 gross tons. Tiie board is lending .£900,000, and the interest will be at the lowest rate of yield of any outstanding Government obligation, the principal being repaid in 21) equal annual sums. It is stated that the board is preparing to make similar loans to other shipbuilders, so that in no long time there will lie in service under the United States flag a number of ships the construction of whleli will have cost rather more than twice as much as vessels of contemporary construction in England. How long, we wonder, will the economically-minded business nt«'n permit such a policy to be pursued, concludes the paper. MISCELLANEOUS. The Waipiata is Io leave Auckland tomorrow for Wellington and southern ports. The Kurow will leave here to-day for Lyttelton. She is due back about Friday and will go on to Auckland. The Waipnhi will now leave Dunedin today for Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland, and is due here on Thursday. The Kanna will leave here on Thursday for Greymouth to load for Wellington. The Katoa was to have left Timaru yesterday for Dunedin and Bluff. She then will return via ports to Wellington and Auckland. 'Tiie Regulus is now due here to-morrow from Tarakohe. and will leave later the same day for Westport and Greynioutli. The Kaimni was due at Westport yesterday, and will load there, completing at Greymouth for Gisborne, Napier, and Wellington. From Lyttelton the John is due here tomorrow, and will go on to Wanganui. New Plymouth, and Port Waikato. The Breeze is now duo here to-morrow* from Wanganui, and will go on to southern ports. TIIE NORFOLK'S ITINERARY. The New Zealand Shipping Company advise that the Norfolk will leave Napier at noon to-day for Picton and Wellington to fill up. The vessel is due at Wellington on Friday, and will sail finally front tiiis port on December 29 for London, Avoumouth, Glasgow, and Liverpool. TAMAROA’S LOADING PORTS. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company’s liner 'Tamaroa arrived at Auckland at 1.3 D a.m. yesterday from Wellington to complete discharge of her London cargo. The vessel will commence loading at Auckland and will leave there on December 27 to load at Opua, Gisborne, and Wellington. Site is due at Wellington on January 5, aud will leave here on January 8 for Auckland to fill up. The Tamaroa is to sail finally from Auckland on January 19 for Southampton and London, via Panama. THE PORT CURTIS. The C. and D. Line steamer Port Curtis arrived at Wellington at 3 p.m. yesterday from Auckland for further loading. Site will leave Wellington to-morrow for Napier, and is to sail finally from the latter port on Saturday night for New York, Boston, and Halifax. SURREY TO LOAD. The Federal Company report that the Surrey is due at New Plymouth on January 4 from Australia to commence loading for New York, Halifax, and London. From New Plymouth the vessel will proceed to Wanganui and Wellington. She is due at Wellington on January 10, and will leave here on January 12 for Napier. Gisborne, and Auckland. Pratique was granted, and the ship berthed at No. 1, south (outer tee), Queen's Wharf, shortly before 9 a.m. The Makura sailed from San Francisco on November 28 and experienced line weather until arrival at Papeete on December 8 at 6.30 a.m. After loading cargo the vessel sailed again at 6 p.m. on tiie same date, and arrived at Rarotonga on December 10. After loading fruit tiie ship resumed her voyage on tiie same date and experienced continued tine weather until arrival at Wellington. Tiie Makura brought 1617 tons of cargo for New Zealand, including 8412 cases of fruit from Rarotonga and 110 sacks of coco-nuts. From San Francisco the ship brought 1365 packages of prepared roofing, 2695 sacks of plaster and a very large shipment of dried and fresh fruits. The Makurn will leave Wellington this afternoon at 3 o'clock for Sydney. MAHIA TO LOAD. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company advise that the Mahla is due at Napier on January 2 from Australia to commence loading for Loudon. She will load also at Gisborne, Picton, Lyttelton and Wellington. The vessel is due at Wellington on January 24, and will sail finally from this port on January 28 for London, via Panama. ROTORUA TO LOAD. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Rotorua left Wellington yesterday afternoon for Lyttelton to load for London. She will subsequently load at Auckland, Tokotnaru Bay. Napier, and Wellington. Tiie vessel is due back at Wellington on January 2. and will sail finally from this port on January 5 for Southampton and London, via Pitcairn Island, Panama and Curacao. PORT HARDY TO LOAD. The C. and D. Line advise that the Port Hartly left Launceston at 3 p.m. for New Plymouth, where she is due on Thursday to commence loading for London. From the Taranaki port the vessel will proceed to Wanganui roadstead, Picton. Wellington, Port Chalmers, nnd Lyttelton. She is to sail finally from Lyttelton on January 11 for London, via Panama.
