LOWER HUTT BOROUGH
MEETING OF COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held last night, the Mayor. (Mr. W. T. btrand) occupying the chair. The Railways Department forwarded a deed for sealing iu connection with a grant in regard to the cutting of an open drain on railway land and of constructing a culvert under the line at Lower Hutt in the vicinity of the M oburn staApproval was accorded proposals submitted by the New Zealand Railways bus department to extend its bus service through Petone via Randwick Road and Elizabeth Street, in order to provide a suitable service for the residents of the district and the railway employees proceeding to work daily at the new voikshop which it was expected would be opened early iu January. ... The report of the Finance Committee, which was adopted, stated that. Hu e it was not possible to brm ß the £4~< borough improvement loan before the Loans Board' as hoped, there was provision in the Act which gave the conned power to draw on its general fund for the purpose of the work, reimbursing ie general account from the loan when the latter was raised. With regard to the sewerage extension loan of £<ooo, itwas unnecessary to obtain the consent of the Loans Board, as it was understood the Health Department proposed to deal with the matter by requisition. On the recommendation or the r inance Committee it was decided that steps be taken to raise a supplementary bridge loan of £2OOO, which amount it was estimated would be required to completely finish the work. _ At the conclusion of the uieetin, seasonal greetings were exchanged by the Mavor and councillors, while tributes were extended to the staff and the Press.
