The meeting-o£ the Loyal Newtown Lodge, Manchester Unity 1.0. F., was held in the lodge room, Monday last, Bro. Johns, N.G., presiding over a good attendance. Two new members were initialed with full ritual. Bro. Davidson, P.G., was accorded a hearty welcome. to which he suitably replied. The installation of the officers for the ensuing term was conducted by Bro. R. Bell, D.D.G.M., assisted by the district secretary, Bro. Godber, and Bros. Guise and Cotiper, of the District Management Committee. The various officers were addressed by the district officers and were accorded lodge honours, to which each suitably replied.

A valuable specimen of kauri gum was found at Red Hill recently, states the Auckland "Herald's” Dargaville correspondent, and turns the scales at 1501 b. It is considered to be the largest individual piece found during the last 20 years, and is second in weight and size to the record piece found at Mangawhare about 25 years ago, which weighed 2cwt. The specimen found at Red Hill was taken from a log that was about six feet underground, the log acting as a shell only to about 2201 b. of gum. It is classed as "best quality” and will be preserved as a valuable addition to the unique specimens of the Dominion's famous products.
