METHODIST CHURCH

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the members of the Taranaki Street Methodist Church was held in the church hall on Wednesday evening. The Rev. C. Eaton presided, assisted by Deaconess Sister Olive, and Messrs. H. P. Mourant and L. G. Clarke, circuit stewards. The annual report disclosed a sound financial position, the contributions to nearly every department being in advance of last year. Mr. Eaton briefly reviewed the Various sections of the Church's activities. The following members were elected to the position of society stewards: Messrs. W. Walton, Barrington. J. O. Priestly, C. H. Barratt, F. W. Jones. W. A. G. Skinner. R. G. Denton, and E. Hurley : sacramental stewards, Messrs. W. A. G. Skinner, H. J. Daniell, and H. P. Mourant: representatives to quarterly meeting, Mcsdames Priestly and Harner, Messrs. Stokes. Gardiner, H. Hain, and K. Strong; officials for Webb Street Church were elected as under: Society steward. Mr. P. Young; sacramental stewards, Mrs. H. Baker and Mrs. M. A. Armstrong. Reference was made to the loss sustained by the Church during the past year, by death of several members of long standing, Mr. George Tiller, Mr. and and Mrs. Hurley, Miss Alcorn, and Mr. Joseph Charlton. Respect to the memory of these departed was shown by those present standing in silence for a brief period. r rhe circuit steward was requested to send a letter of sympathy to Mr. Fred Chinchin, a member of very long standing, who is at present dangerously ill. The following friends provided the vocal and instrumental items for the evening's entertainment: Mesdames Sidney Tingey and F. W. Fergie, Misses M. Goodwill. Gladys Hibberd, mid- Gwen Burley. Messrs A. Carr. E. Froggett. and 11. Newton. Reference was made to the illness of His Majesty t|ie King, and prayer offered on his behalf for a speedy recovery.
