ANGLO-RUSSIAN TRADE
TALK OF RESUMPTION A CURIOUS SITUATION (United Service. I London, December 14. There is a possibility of representatives of British trade going to Russia at no distant date to investigate AngloRussian trade. The situation is a curious one. The Government definitely maintains its previous attitude, and will not consider a resumption of diplomatic relations except under the terms stated when they were broken off, which would involve Russia’s initiating the question of resumption and undertaking a cessation of propaganda throughout the Empire and other guarantees. Ou the contrary, Government circles pointedly reiterate tlieir anxiety not to place obstacles in the way of legitimate trade, and it was more or less admitted that a trade agreement could be arranged not involving a resumption of diplomatic relations. It appears that a certain section of the Conservatives, comprising the younger and more progressive members, are bringing pressure on the Government. It is certain that the Government will not officially act. but a trade agreement would appear possible between private interests'. There will be. no objection to this. Undoubtedly certain members of Cabinet sympathise with this, especially those who have not become reconciled to the trade rupture.
