GOVERNMENT SCHEME FOR ASSISTANCE
UNEMPLOYED BRITISH ' MINERS (Australian Press Assdfclation.) London, December 15. As a result of to-day’s Cabinet meet; ing, it is practically certain that the Government scheme to assist the unemployed miners will consist of a Treasury donation to the Lord Mayor’s fund for food, boots, and clothing, which the Government regard as the most pressing needs. The Government, however, fears the announcement will possibly cause a slackening of private donations now amounting to £145,000. The Government hopes the nationallyorganised appeal will aim at half a million, in which event the Government will be prepared to add half a million.
