APPEAL FOR FAIR PLAY SPEECH BY BEN TILLETT (Australian Press Association.) (Rec. December 14, 5.5 p.m.) London, December 13. Mr. Beu Tillett, discussing in the House of Commons the tendency to buy goods exported from foreign countries, said: "A few days ago I saw dockers unloading currants and sultanas from the Levant. I know the living conditions and wages paid to the men and women who cultivate am] gather them. I reflected that nearby ships were unloading similar fruits from Australia, where the standard of living is more in accord with that for which we are striving. I could not help the feeling that therein there was a moral for all of us Labour folk and a seasonable moral, too. to appeal to fellow countrymen for fair play within the Empire.”
