The British Registrar-General’s statistical review of England and Wales for 1927, issued at the end of September, records: The second highest total of divorce; an increase in the number of marriages; the lowest birth-rate on record ; decrees nisi made absolute numbered 3190, against 3522 in the record year of 1921; girls in the early twenties were most numerous as brides, the age of 23 headed the list; nearly 9000 bachelors married widows.
