Police in the Magistrate's Court on Saturday morning were heard before Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M. Hans Hansen, a ship’s fireman, who arrived in New Zealand from Montreal on October 11 by the Canadian Conqueror, and who later deserted from the ship, was charged witii being a prohibited immi»rant. The Collector of Customs (Mr. L. 'l' W Maclaurin) asked that accused might be deported. Thomas Walsh, who was also charged with the theft of a gold watch and gold chain, a silver watch, two pairs of shoes, and one :shirt, valued at £44. the property of Bartholomew. John Kelleher, was also remanded until November 28.
