WORLD COURT

ADHERENCE OF UNITED STATES RESERVATION PROPOSED BY SENATE .APPROVAL OF POWERS MAY BE SOUGHT (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian Press Assn.—United Servlce.i Washington, November 24. President Coolidge, it is understood, is willing to have Mr. Kellogg re-open the negotiations with foreign Powers to obtain approval of the reservations proposed by the Senate in voting on United States adherence to the W crld Court. ARE NEGOTIATIONS IN PROGRESS? SENATORS’ IMPRESSIONS (Australian Press Association.) (Rec. November 25, 11.45 p.m.) New York, November 24. The “New York Times’s” Wushiington correspondent states that fifteen Republican Senators who breakfasted with President Coolidge to-day carried I away the impression that the President appears to be inclined to make another effort to bring the United States into membership of the World Court. The President discussed the legislative-programme with them, and they learned that Mr. Coolidge was anxious to round out his Presidential career with the ratification of the Kellogg Pact, the enactment of the Fifteen Cruiser Bill, and an arrangement with the Powers’ signatory ./to the World Court protocol whereby the obstacle to American adherence, offered by the Senate’s reservations, would be overcome. . • • ■ ■ " ;

It was apparent to certain of .the senatorial guests that to bring this Government into the World Court’s membership was a matter dear to the President’s heart. There was no disclosure to indicate that exchanges for overcoming the Senate reservations difficulties had. been initiated with the Powers, but a knowledge of the President’s manner of doing things gives colour to the surmise that negotiations are already in progress.
