Tuesday’s concert at the Sailors’ Friend Society will be well remembered by the seafaring guests of Mr. W. C. Tanner, whose band rendered most pleasing items that met with many encores. Light refreshments were dispensed by the band. The performers were Mrs. Beronossoni, the Misses White, Rothwell, de Bery, M. Exton, nnd Messrs, W. C. Tanner, E. Tanner, Draper, Macwhister, Claney, Johnson, Dilloway. Eton, Leslie, Evans, and Larkin. Mrs. Beronossoni was at the piano. Mr. J. Moore, missioner. spoke on “To-day and Every Day,” in relation to the temperance . question. Pledges followed. Competitions filled a niche in the programme. Prizes from the Victoria League went to the Rimutaka and Canadian Traveller. A plant was started recently in Vancouver to extract oil from dogfish. The oil has been found useful in making a pharmaceutical preparation for protection against the bites of mosquitoes and similar pests. The Southland Girls’ High School jubilee will be celebrated in February next. The Jubilee Association wishes every ex-pupil or ex-teacher who has not yet received a circular to send her name and address to the secretaries, c/o Box 15, Invercargill, as early as Jaslbla. —AdnU
