TECHNICAL COLLEGE FAIR

With a view to raising funds towards the establishment of the Dominion Museum and National Art Gallery a fair was held in the Technical College, Mt. Cook, yesteq?he3 Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup), in opening the carnival, said that none could have worked harder or more successfully than the students of the Technical College towards raising funds for the Museum and Art Gallery. A great carnival would open to-morrow (Saturday), by which it was hoped that the balance of the money to make the £lOO.OOO required would be raised. He understood that nothing like the carnival had ever been seen in Wellington before. The object was a very worthy one, and those who had helped to raise the necessary money would take pride in the fact when the National Art Gallery and Museum was established. The principal of the college, Mr. Howell, said that the staff and students of the college had been infected with the enthusiasm of the Mayor towards raising money for such a worthy object. He had never before known in bls experience such co-operation aa those connected with the college had shown in an effort to get money for the fund. In all £B3 had been taken alone in 3d. tickets for admission to the show and side-shows. (Applause.) There were some very tine exhibits on view tn the various stalls, all of which were being offered cheaply. In the stalls, woodwork, metal work, toys, art, cakes, and puddings, and various other things were for sale. The side-shows comprised a shooting gallery, coconut-shies, dartthrowing. bran-tubs, portraits by caricature -artists, a putting competition, a fish pond, etc. From 8 p.m. until midnight dancing Is held, and excellent floor and orchestra being provided.
