The depression yesterday over the Tasman is now commencing to cross New Zealand, but is much reduced In intensity. A moderate anticyclone is centred over South-Eastern Australia. Moderate to strong west to north winds, reaching gale force at times in exposed positions In and south of Cook Strait, backing to southerlies again later In southern districts. Rather rough seas about Cook Strait; elsewhere smooth to moderate. Moderate to strong northerly and later backing to southerly winds In the eastern Tasman with rather rough seas in the southern and moderate in the northern portions. , > Cloudy and with scattered showers In the western and southern portions of the South Island; otherwise mainly fair to fine. Temperatures warm at first, becoming cooler later. More generally unsettled conditions probable after 24 hours.
