FIRES
BARREL FACTORY DESTROYED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, November 21. Damage estimated at £4OOO was caused by a fire at midnight in a bar--141 factory in Gillies Avenue, next to t?ie Newmarket School. The factory is owned by Mr. P. G. Wolfe, of Onehunga, and is constructed of concrete blocks and iron. It was stacked with completed barrels and many others in the course of construction, as well as much dry timber. The principal item of loss was the valuable machinery, which was totally destroyed. It was worth over £2OOO. The building and contents are insured in the Royal and South British Offices for a total of £3OOO. HAMILTON SHOP DESTROYED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Hamilton, November 22. A fire on the main street at 2 a.m. destroyed a fancy goods shop owned by Mr. H. H. Howden and occupied by Mr. J. M. Monk. The adjoining shops in Mr. Howden’s block were damaged. The Alaska Fur Depot’s stock was damaged by smoke and water. The total loss of all stocks is estimated at £2OOO. Mr. Howden’s block was insured for £B5O in the South British office, Mr. Monk’s stock for £750 in the London and Lancashire office. The Alaska Fur Depot's insurance is not available.
