SUMMER BLOOMS

KARORI FLOWER SHOW The Karori Horticultural Society held its .Summer Rose Show yesterday in the Parish Hall, when there was a beautiful display of fragrant Howers from the gardens of the suburb. Dr. A. Izard, president of the AVellington Horticultural Society, opened the show, and was accompanied by Mrs. 11. M. Gore (vice-presi-dent)', who received a bouquet of Howers presented by Mr. Purdie’s little daughter. Mr. G. 8. Nieoll, the president, introduced Dr. Izard, and said that the Karori Society was only two years old, but it was growing, and they had a number of new exhibitors this year. They hoped to compete in the larger shows in future years. Dt Izard assured theinembers that the AVellington Society welcomed the smaller growers, and tvould be glad to see competitors from Karori. AVellington was at a disadvantage in roje growing compared with places like Christchurch, but in the circumstances he thought gardeners here did very well. There was a pleasing display of roses from local gardens, as well as other Howers. Mr. E. C. Gamble showed some Hue specimens of calceolaria, grown at Kariro, and Mr. B, Sutherland had a good stand of pot plats (gardener, S. Fearn), while the cemetery gardeners showed two stands of plants and flowers. The pansies and violas were a large section, and great admiration was expressed for a display of irises, by Mr. A. 11.
