BROADCASTING CRICKET RESULTS
Sir, I have read with interest the letter from “Aussie,” in this morning’s “Dominion,” concerning the broadcasting of Australian cricket results. It may be of interest to “Aussie” to know that Station 2YA has endeavoured to provide the service indicated by him, and on prpbably 50 per cent, of the days on which the English team has been playing in Australia, has managed to procure the position of play at the drawing of stumps, and broadcast it before closing d °The Australian stations broadcast the position at close of play, at 9.45 rsew Zealand time, and arrangements, I understand, have been made for a certain number of enthusiasts to listen to those stations in the effort to provide 2YA the necessary data for broadcasting. Reception, however, at this tune, of the year, is not so reliable as it is during the winter It will be appreciated, of course, that absolute accuracy is necessary to permit of the broadcasting of results. It has frequently been found by those who have been listening that the figures have only been partly heard, or mis-heard. It is by no means an easy thing to secure the Australian stations accurately while 2YA is broadcasting, but every effort through this channel and other channels, is, I believe, being made to give listeners the service desired. „ If there are listeners who, in addition to those that have already been arranged for by the station, are in a position to receive the Australian stations with accuracy on all occasions, I have no doubt that the station would be very glad of supplementary help. I think it is fair to 2YA, however, to assure Aussie that I know very definitely that fullest efforts are being made to render the service desired.—l am, etc., Wellington, November 20, 1928.
