MOUNT COOK SCHOOL

USING THE OLD TIMBERS.

While a good deal of the timber in the old Mount Cook School was sold when the building was demolished, some of the sound timber in the roof, and walls was reserved by the board for use in the storehouse for repairs and maintenance purposes. Although _ fifty years old. most of the wood was in at sound a condition as when first put in and much superior to any new timber tvhich could be bought, on account of it being so well seasoned. Some of it was turned to use in making a large quadruple ennhoard at the Education Board offices, while much of it has been utilised in making tables.-trays,-library cupboards, bookshelves, etc., and some of the scantling and matchboarding has been used in repairs, renovations and extensions at Miramar. Karpri and elseW 'tlw> fiftv years’ jubilee of the old Mount Cook ’.School wns celebrated a short time before the building s demolition. and n suggestion was made then that the Old Boys’ Association should have a “hair or other piece of furniture made out of the old timber, have a plate placed unon it recording the fact, and present it to the new school to commemorate the old one. I pon inquiry yesterday it was -found that the idea’ had not yet been acted upon, although one or two old boys were anite in accord with something of the kind being done.
