MAGISTRATE’S COURT
POLICE AND MAINTENANCE CASES Police and maintenance cases in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday were heard before Mr. J. IL Salmon, S.M. John Duncan, a labourer, aged 48, was fined 10s. for a second offence of drunkenness. . John Cummings, a labourer, aged 54, who was charged with being found without lawful excuse in a shed on the Hutt Road, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within three months. On a charge of being an idle and disorderly person in that he placed himself in Cambridge Terrace for the purpose of begging alms, Samuel James Hamilton Smith, aged 49, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within three months if called upon. On the application ot Chief-Detective Ward a remand until to-morrow was ■'ranted to Clifford Corrin, a labourer, aged 18, who was charged with unlawfully converting to his own use a motorcar valued at £250, the property of Levin and Co. It was stated that other charges were pending. MAINTENANCE CASES Edgar Elgar Henwood was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment for being 14s. 4d. in arrears on an order for the support of two children. He is to be released on payment of the arrears. A sentence of three months’ imprisonment was imposed on Eileen Ryan, who was charged with being £33 12s. in arrears on an order for the support of a child, the warrant to be suspended so long as £1 2s. a week is paid. On a charge of being £2 10s. in arrears on an order for the support of his wife and infant children, Charles John Barrett was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment. The warrant is to be suspended so long as lie pays £1 Ils. a week. t x Clarence Dillon was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment for being £4 10s. in arrears on an order for the support of two children. Cd. a week. , , , John Harding was sentenced to three weeks’ imprisonment for being £2 in arrears for the support of a child. The warrant is to be suspended so long as he pays 15s. each week.
