MAGISTRATE’S COURT

POLICE AND CIVIL CASES Police cases in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday were heard before Mr. E. Page, S.M. On the application of Chief-Detective Ward a further remand until this morning was granted to David Leslie Morris, a clerk, aged 23, who was charged with the theft of a gold watch chain, a gold locket, and two watches, valued at £l‘J 10s., the property of Alexander Thompson. Claude Alexander Basil Martin, a hairdresser, aged 43, pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing a pair of gold-rim-med spectacles, valued at £1 17s. 6d., the property of Samuel Jones. The owner of the glasses said that the spectacles had been taken from the Labour Party’s committee rooms’in Cambridge Terrace. He considered that accused was under the influence of liquor. Sub-Inspector Lander stated that accused had a list of twelve previous convictions. A sentence of one month’s imprisonment was imposed.
