FLOODED SECTIONS AT LOWER HUTT
QUESTION OF LIABILITY. The Mayor of Lower Hutt (Mr. W. T. Strand), stated on Saturday that the question of the flooding of Randwick Road and the adjacent area had been receiving urgent attention by the borough council. A scheme for remedying the trouble had been prepared by Messrs. Bush.and Sladden. engineers to the council, and the Hutt River Board, respectively, and the only obstacle to carrying it out was the question of whose was the liability—the Crown Lands Department, the Lower Hutt Borough Council, or the Hutt River Board. Negotiations up to date had failed to arrive at a basis satis factory to the parties. Mr. Strand states, however, that as the trouble affects the henllh of over 2000 people, the work must lie put in hand nt once, and arrangements have been made to commence it to-day, the parties, including the Crown Lands Commissioner, having agreed to each pay their fair share of the cost, to be arrived nt nl'ter close investigations. The engineer, Mr. A. G. Bush, states that lhe work will be pushed ■ through with the utmost dis-patch.
