AUSTRALIAN OLYMPIC TEAM
COMPLAINTS BY MANAGER DESCRIBED AS “BUNK” (Australian Press Association.) Melbourne, November 3. The Olympic Council has received complaints from the Australian team manager, Mr. Less Duff, against Charles Stuart, middle distance runner, and Tom Bolger, a wrestler, declaring that they were apathetic in their training abroad and also failed to diet themselves properly. The council is to consider the complaints. “A FARCE FROM BEGINNING TO END” Sydney, November 3. Interest in the so-called “Olympic scandal” grows, following Mr. Duff’s report to the Olympic Council, naming Stuart and Bolger as being neglectful in training during the trip. Stuart declares that he will seek legal advice, as he considers the charge amounts to defamation of character. He did more track work than any other member of the team, but under the conditions his chances were hopeless. Further than that he would not speak at present. Pearce, the sculling champion, unhesitatingly denounces the training arrangements. He would not have had a chance himself but for the action taken privately by his father. Whyte, the Victorian Olympic runner, now in Sydney, sums up Mr. Duff’s report as “bunk.” and says the tour was a farce from beginning to end. The federation in future should make arrangements that would give tlie Australians at least a fighting chance.
