NEGLIGENT DRIVING
9 OFFENDING MOTORIST FINED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, November 2. Cecil Harold Lewis was charged before Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., with negligently drivi’ a motor-car along Oxford Terrace on September 10 at night. “The police relief was going out along Hereford Street,” said Sub-lu-spector Fitzpatrick, “and as they were crossing Oxford Terrace a car rushed down on them and they had to scatter' with some promptitude to escape injury.”
A statement signed by the defendant was handed to the Bench. He stated that it was a wet night, his windscreen wiper was out of order, and the rain obscured his \ ’ lion. “The patrol men say that there was n> rain on that "ight,” said the SubInspector. “Then his wiper would not have improved matters if it had been working,” observed the Magistrate. The defendant was fined £2 and costs.
