ANIMAL HOSPITAL FOR AUCKLAND
‘ERECTION OF SUITABLE BUILDING., Dominion Special Service. Auckland, November 2. The first “Blue Cross’’ hospital for animals in New Zealand is about to be established at New Lynn by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to A nimals under an arrangement with Mr. H; W. Carbury, one of its honorary veterinary surgeons. Believing that with the growth of Auckland such a hospital has become necessary, the society has for some years been accumulating a capital fund for the purpose of erecting a hospital. ;Jt has purchased two acres of land at New Lynn, and on this site will erect . immediately a suitable concrete building to contain an operating theatre, a “ward” with cages for dogs, cats, and birds, and all the necessary conveniences. A dwelling-house will be built on another part of the land, and provision/ will be made for enclosures in which the animals can be exercised. A business, agreement has been entered into between the society and Mr. Carbury whereby the hospital will be carried on by him as the society’s tenant. At present the scheme does not Include horses, but It Is possible it may be extended to do so. It is Intended that the buildings shall be ready for use by Christmas in order that owners may be able to leave pets at the Institution during the holidays.
