PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ SWIMMING
» — FIRST ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. The first annual general meeting of the Wellington Primary Schools’ Amateur Swimming Association was held in the institute club-room recently. The report and balance-sheet, which revealed, very satisfactory progress during the first year of the association’s activities, were adopted. Thanks were expressed to Wellington swimmers and officials, to the -Wellington City Council, to the custodian of Te Aro Baths, and to the Press for assistance in the carrying out of the year’s programme. It was decided to issue certificates during the coming season to school children who can swim 25 yards but who are not eligible for the certificates for longer distances which are issued by the New Zealand Swimming Association. Very gratifying interest in the work of the new association has been expressed by the Minister of Education, the Director of Education, the senior inspector, and inspectors of the Wellington district, and members of Wellington Education Board and school committees. The committee anticipates that the coming season will mark a distinct advance in school swimming. The following officers were elected: —President, Mr. J. Finlayson ; vice-presidents, Miss M. Magill and Mr. W. S. Bowie; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. E. H. Fisher; hon. assistant-secre-tary, Mr. G. B. Richardson; management committee, Miss D. Fairbrother, Miss I. Thomson, Mr. W. Britton, and Mr. D. T. Gardner: hon. auditlr, Mr. J. K. Edie; delegate to Wellington Centre, N.Z.A.S.A., Mr. G. B. Richardson: educational officer, Mr. H. R. Fisher.
