In the enthusiasm of the auspicious opening of the West End Bowling Club (says the Auckland “Star”), and the extraordinary sociability engendered at these functions, the Labour candidate, Mr. M. J. Savage, M.P., when called upon to speak, first made kindly reference to the presence on the green of a political opponent, Mr. Frank Adeane, and then advanced the. suggestion that they might settle the issue by a match at bowls. However, native caution came to the rescue, and, without giving his opponent a chance to accept the implied challenge, Mr. Savage said he was afraid Mr. Adeane’s experience in the bowling world would lead to his dis--1 comfiture. and left it at that
