ESPERANTO

WELLINGTON CLUB. An enthusiastic meeting of the Wellington Esperanto Club took place last Tuesday in the Y.M.C.A. The president, Mr. E. C. Jack, alluded to the huge .success of the recent world conference of Esperantists held in Antwerp, when representatives from all parts of the world met in happy association; more than 1500 Esperantists attended the proceedings. From beginning to end bnly one language was spoken—the simple international language Esperanto. The ease with which the addresses were delivered and. understood was in direct contradistinction to other international gatherings, where several national languages were officially recognised. Esperanto scored every time because of its extreme simplicity. There were only sixteen rules, and no difficulties were encountered in the way of pronunciation. Esperanto was not brought forward to supersede national languages, but was promulgated as a simple solution to the difficulties experienced in international intercourse. Instruction classes were continued.
