AMATEUR ATHLETICS

WELLINGTON CENTRE ANNUAL REPORT.

While congratulating members on the success obtained, the twenty-fifth annual report of the Wellington Centre of the N'.Z.AA.A. to be presented at the meeting to-night, states that the past season was one of the most strenuous experienced. From an athletic point of view the object aimed at, viz., to fit competitors for the championships, was fully gained. The growth of the sport in Wellington was on the upward grade, and new clubs were still being formed. This was particularly noticeable in the country districts, and new clubs have been formed in Hawke’s Bay, Manawatu and Walrarapa. During the season the Gisborne Club, the leading club in the Poverty Bay district, had been placed under the centre’s control, and with the Increased number of clubs in the Hawke’s Bay District the time was considered opportunte to form a subcentre to control them. “Although n slight loss is shown on the season’s workings,” concludes the report, “an excess of £765 13s. Od. still appears on the right side of the balance sheet.”
