WINALOT DEFEATED IN RANDWICK PLATE CLIBBORN STAKES TO • RAMULUS (Rec. October 7, 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, October 7. The spring meeting of the Australian Jockey Club concluded at Randwlck yesterday in warm weather. The track was good and the attendance was 45,000. The racing lacked the interest of the previous three days of the meeting due to the absence of many high-class performers Limerick’s withdrawal from the Randwlck Plate disappointed large numbers of race-goers who were anxious to see a contest between the New Zealander and Wlnalot. • Bacchus created a surprise by his narrow defeat of Wlnalot in the Randwick Plate, while Ramulus, who went out favourite in the Clibborn Stakes, completely outclassed the opposition. ReTHE ’ CANONBURY STAKES, Ot 1060 sovs. For two-year-olds. Five furlongs. Comanche, 8.5 g Pay Paix, 8.0 g •Regie D'Or, 8.5 J Sixteen started. Pay Paix was first away from Accepted, Gladioli, and Lady Woodville. Turning for home Pay Paix was in charge ahead of Shekels, Gladioli, Lady Woodville, Regie D’Or. Sir Christopher acted as pacemaker from Ramulus, Coercion, and Solitas. Turning for home, Ramulus joined Sir Christopher ahead of Coercion and Solitas. Ramulus took charge at the distance and won with ease by two lengths. Timo, Imin, 38Jsec, THE FINAL HANDICAP, of 1000 sovs. One mile and a quarter. Spruiker, 8.9 1 Galadeer, 8.6 2 Dolomite, 7.3 3 Eleven started. Dolomite led throughout to the distance, followed by Valllno, Sallie Blue, Spruiker, Magdaff, and Galadeer. Spruiker took charge at the distance and won comfortably by two lengths. Time, 2min. fllsec. RICCARTON TRACK NOTES PROMISING FILLY DESTROYED Dominion Special Service, Christchui’ch, October 7. Conditions were favourable for training operations at Riccarton on Saturday except that the tracks were hard, and a fall of rain would be welcomed by trainers. The No. 7 grass was open for galloping, and in consequence the times registered were of a fast order. The plough was also in demand, and if the present weather continues for any further length of time this track will be in general use. Golden Armour ran four furlongs in 50 2-ssec., and Philippic six furlongs in Imin. 21 l-ssec. Goblin Market was restricted to a useful six furlongs, and Honour sprinted home three furlongs in 40 3-ssec.

Footfall, was galloped a mile and a quarter on the same track. He was not extended, but maintained an even pace throughout, completing his task in 2min. 18 3-ssec., the last six furlongs in Imin. 20 3-ssec. '

Hoylake ran six furlongs comfortably in Imin. 19 4-ssee., and showed a desire to increase the pace. Count Cavour ran the last six of seven furlongs in Imin. 20see. He was accompanied over five furlongs by Amor, but had the measure of his stable mate at the finish.

All the above gallops were executed on the plough. • On the grass track Pride sprinted three furlongs in 38 3-ssec. Impertinence strode over five furlongs in Imin. 3 l-ssec., and her stable mates, Swoopalong and Quarterdeck, registered a similar performance. Noteworthy’s time for six furlongs was Imin, 14sec., and Silver Coot and Paper Boy covered the same distance in Imin. 14 2-ssec.

Paperchnse, with a good weight up, recorded Imin. 14 3-ssec. in a like task. Rapier and Battle Colours, under restraint, were together throughout a ninefurlong gallop, taking 2min., the last six furlongs, Imin. 20 3-ssec, Money Order showed his usual speed over six furlongs, covered in Imin. 14 2-ssec.

Starshooter comfortably traversed six furlongs in Imin. ISsec., Uproar and Front Rank registering Imin. 17sec. for a similar gallop. Corsetiere was slightly in front of The Viscount at the end ot five furlongs in Imin. 3 4-ssec.

Paliautanui outclassed Spode over half a mile, run in 49 2-ssec. Honeycomb executed _ easy work over six furlongs, taking Imin 19 2-ssec. The McLean Stakes candidate Stately attracted attention by covering four furlongs in 47 3-ssec. Red Heckle and Campanula ran half a mile in 52 l-ssec.

Quaccee registered the best gallop of the morning over six furlongs, traversing the distance in Imin. 13 3-ssec. Unfortunately one of her front legs snapped below the fetlock joint, just after passing the post, and her immediate destruction was necessary. Star Raid and Zeuxis recorded 49 2-ssee. for four furlongs, the former again showing promising form. Dutch Money exhibited a turn_of speed by covering half a mile in 49 2-sscc. Diana’s Lad, with Kulrange as a companion, galloped a mile in Imin. 49 l-ssec. An attractive schooling (ask was witnessed on. Friday between Chickwheat (I. Tilson), Ned Kelly (E. Shaw), and Radiate (A. J. Peart). The two firstnamed gave a splendid exhibition, Crickwheat finishing in front, while Radiate, who has always been a bad track worker over the fences, was beaten off. Front Rank, in charge of J. Boyd, was included in the Riccarton contingent which will be railed to Dunedin to-mor-row. She is engaged in the October Handicap on the opening day of the meeting, and should win more money en the trip.
