V> THE YOUNG ESTATE OFFERED BY AUCTION Land of historical interest to Wellington, the late Mr. T. V. Young’s Estate, fronting Brougham and Elizabeth Streets, now subdivided into 18 residential sections, was last night offered under the hammer. Described as the last of the original "Town Acres,” it was acquired by the late Mr. T. W. Young on June 23, 1868. Originally three "Town Acres,” the land was bought for a total of £lOOO. At one time it was the proposed site of the Clyde Quay School, and Mr. Forsyth approached the lat. Mr. Young and obtained an option over tlie land, tn be exercised at his death, but the scheme fell through. Only a part of the site was acquired, that on the northern side of Elizabeth Street, the Education Board paying £3O a foot for a 330 foot section 92 feet deep. At one time Elizabeth Street was widened and continued from a' narrow downhill dead-end street to a through thoroughfare from Brougham Street to Kent Terrace, this land coming out of the Young Estate. Bidding at the sale last night was fairly close all the way, the auctioneers stating that there was every possibility of the bidders meeting the vendors owing to the closeness of the final bid and the reserve price. A new street is to be formed running south off Elizabeth Street into the area which will give road frontage to a number of the sections. Offered subject to prior sale, three ot the sections were already sold. Lot 4, a middle section on the lower side of the new street with a 40 foot frontage and a depth of 101 ft. 2in., was sold to Mr. E. S. Butz ns agent for £l6OO. Lot 7, ou the corner of the new street and Elizabeth Street, having a total street frontage of 125 ft. lOin., was sold to Mr. A. Milligan for £2250, and Lot 17, the back section on the upper side of the new street, approximately 109 ft. deep and 40ft. frontage, to Mr. Mark Green for £1550. Under the hammer last night the only section sold was Lot 11, a section 40ft. wide and 90ft. deep, on the upper side of the new street, being the second one in from Elizabeth Street. The purchaser was Mr. A. Lulham, the price being £1550. Following is a detailed account ot the sale: — , Lot 1,45 ft. frontage on Elizabeth Street, 84ft. deep. Bidding started at £l6OO, rose rapidly to £2OOO._ and the section was passed in_ at £2160, the reserve price being £2250. Lot 2, corner section, 56ft. frontage L ‘on Elizabeth Street, 84ft. frontage on new street. Bidding started at £2OOO, rose in small amounts to £2420, when the section was passed in. The reserve price was £2500. Lot 3,40 ft. frontage to new street. 301 ft. ’ Sin. depth. Bidding started at £lOOO, rose in small bids to £1560, when the section was passed in. The reserve price was £l6OO. o Lot 4. already sold. Similar to lot o, price £l'6oo. Mr. E. S. Butz, as agent, was the buyer. Lot 5, 49 feet frontage, on the new street, depth 96 feet 2 inches. Bidding started at £l2OO, but the section was passed 'in at £l5OO. The reserve price was not stated. • Lot 6. rear section, lower side of the new street, largest on the plan, 40 feet wide, 121 feet 2 inches deep. Bidding started at £l2OO, rose in large amounts to £1635, when it was passed in. The reserve price was not slated. Lot 7, corner section, already sold. S 4 feet frontage on new street, and 47 feet 9 inches on Elizabeth Street. Buyer. Mr. A. Milligan, price £2250. Lot 8. frontage 42 feet 3 inches on Elizabeth Street, deptli 84 feet, above the new street. Bidding started at £l2OO, and rose briskly to £1960, when it was passed in. The reserve price was not stated. Lot 9, similar to lot 8, -but higher up Elizabeth Street, no bids. Lot 10, frontage 84 feet, Brougham Street, 46 feet 0 inches Elizabeth Street, no bids. / Lot 11, frontage 40 feet on the upper side of new street, depth DO feet. Bidding started at £l2OO, and rose to £1550, at which price it was sold to Mr. A. Lulham. Lot 13. already sold. Divisions similar Jo Lot 11, but situated further from Elizabeth Street. Buyer, Mr. N. Clout, price £l6OO. Lots 14 and 16, each of 40ft. frontage on Brougham Street and 86ft. Gin. depth. Could be bought, together or separately. The old residence of Mr. Young, situated on sections 8 and 9, could be shifted on these two lots for £250, if desired. Bidding started at £l2OO, but both lots were passed in at £1550 each. Reserve price was £l6OO on each. Lot 15, 40ft. frontage on new street on the upper side, 90ft. depth. Bidding started al £l2OO, and the lot was passed in at £1535. The reserve price was not stated.

Lot 17, rear section, upper side of new street, 40ft. frontage, 108 ft. Din. depth, was sold prior to the sale for £l7OO. to Mr. Mark Green. Lot 18, 40ft. frontage on Brougham Street, 86ft. 6in. depth. There is n nineroomed house on it. Bidding started at £2OOO, and rose steadily to £3175, when the property was passed in. The reserve price was not stated.
