At Forest Hills, Henri Coehet (France) won the United States National Singles championship, defeating Francis T. Hunter. 4—(l, o—4, 3—o, 7—5. o—3. Coehet played only one game consistently to the American's backhand, and thereafter Hunter's vicious forehand put the Frenchman on the defensive. They were so evenly matched in the second set that at the end of tlie sixth game, with the score 3—3. there was only one point of difference between them, ami thus they continued until Hunter dropped his service in tlie tenih. to lose the set. the difference being only three points.
