MAGISTRATE’S COURT

POLICE, BY-LAW, AND CIVIL CASES Police cases in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday were heard before Mr. E. Page, S.M. Minnie Walsh, aged 50, a second offender for drunkenness, was fined 10s., in default 48 hours’ imprisonment. On a charge of casting offensive matter in a public place, Frederick George Gitsham. a seaman, aged 50, was fined £l, in default three days’ imprisonment. He was convicted ami discharged for being drunk. On the application of Detective-Ser-geant Holmes, IVilliam James Charnley, a labourer, aged 36, was remanded until Friday on a charge of stealing £2 155., the property of George Williams. Ali Farah, a greaser, aged 28, was charged with landing in New Zealand, being a prohibited immigrant. He was convicted and sentenced to two months’ imprisonment. The Magistrate ordered that he should be deported by the first steamer available. BY-LAW CASES Cases affecting the by-laws were dealt with by Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M. On charges of speeding, Wilson Russ and Albert Wass were each fined £3, and Victor A. Alexander £l. For not having his vehicle properly lighted John Foot was fined 10s. Leaving his car unattended cost Robert L. Archibald 10s. , William A. Morris was fined ±3 for driving a motor-lorry in a negligent manner, and 10s. for not having the lorry properly lighted. Trevor McD. Hailey was fined £2 tot not having a driver’s license and £1 tor not having a warning device on his motor-cycle. „ , .. , . Raymond Gough was fined £1 for not having his vehicle properly lighted, ±2 for not having a driver's license, and 10s. for not having a rear number-plate on his vehicle. Edith L. Hill was fined £3 and Alfred Newberry £2 for driving in a dangerous “‘in”a'defence case, William Henry Fellows was ordered to pay costs, 10s„ for failing to attend drill.
