The London Hospital, which already possesses 121 milligrammes of radium is purchasing a further 210 milligrammes, at a cost of £2854, for use in cancer treatment. The radium is to be mounted in the form of needles, similar in appearance to those used with a gramophone. They are of platinum and contain from two to six milligrammes each. The treatment con sists of inserting a number of needles in cells iu vrowth. They remain there for varying times, generally five days, and in favourable cases the growth is not only prevented from spreading, but is also‘destroyed. As many as forty needles are used in some cases.
