REV. J. K. ARCHER AND THE AIRMEN
Sir. —As a resident of Christchurch, I wish to protest through the medium of your valuable paper against the Mayor of Christchurch’s unwarranted and im-per-tinent action in cabling his insulting protest to tile-intrepid airmen, Kingsford Smith and Ulm. Certainly no one who knows the Mayor takes any notice of his actions, but then, the airmen do not know him as we do, and no one would be the least surprised, I am sure, if they, through the insult offered them, decided to “taboo” Christ-church.-What a nasty position Mr. Archer is placing his council “comrades” iu, isn't he? The only gratifying thing is the fact that the Mayor is, by his latest action, prejudicing his already almost hopeless position for a further term as Chief Magistrate. (As a Parliamentary proposition we all knew he has no chance — Christchurch North is too sane.) Sir, I was exceeding glad to read your sub-leader in to-day’s “Dominion.” Too much publicity cannot be given to our Mayor's action.—l am. etc.. CHRISTCHURCH RESIDENT. Wellington, September 4.
