CAR SMASHED AT CROSSING
PALMERSTON DRIVER INJURED REMARKABLE ESCAPE FROM DEATH Dominion Special Service. Marton, September 6. At the railway crossing on the main road just above Hunterville a southbound mixed train struck a ear driven bv Claude Mitchell, of the firm of Grant and Mitchell. Palmerston North, who was proceeding to Hunterville. The vehicle was struck in the middle on the driver’s side and was carried for several yards and smashed to pieces. Mitchell had a miraculous escape from death, sustaining injuries to his face and shock. It is not known whether any bones are broken, but he is in the Hunterville Hospital. The crossing approach from the north is not a bad one.
