LOS ANGELES MURDER
THE APPREHENSION OF HICKMAN APPORTIONMENT OF REWARDS (United Service.) Los Angeles, September 5. During tlie height of the Hickman excitement Los Angeles went wild in offering rewards for his apprehension. Finally boiled down, the actual fund amounted to £5500. So many people contributed towards tracking tlie murderer that the apportioning of the reward became a difficult task. Tlie final solution was that a committee of business men took charge and secured agreements from everyone concerned that they would abide by the committee's decision. They then announced the awards. Two policemen who actually arrested Hickman get £l6OO each; a haberdasher, who sold Hickman a hat and recognised the number of one of Parker’s twenty-, dollar bills, gets £500; while a similar amount went to a gasoline service station operator who sold Hickman gas and carefully watched his route.
