PARK LANE
CONVERSION INTO SHOPPING AREA GIGANTIC SCHEME LAUNCHED (United Service.) London, September 5. For the conversion of the exclusive Park Lane into a shopping centre a gigantic scheme has been launched by Mr. Samuel Wallrock, past president of the Incorporated Society of Auctioneers. It is estimated that the cost will be a million. Mr. M allrock describes it as the commercialisation of Mayfair, and it is claimed that Park Lane will be the world’s finest shopping thoroughfare. The development is possible, as the Duke of Westminster has removed the ban imposed on the erection of commercial premises in this area and has given his consent to the conversion of palaces and mansions into Shops and emporiums on a vast scale. Sir Edwin Lutyens, on behalf of the Duke of Westminster, will supervise the architecture.
