WANGANUI FIFTEEN AT WHANGAREI VICTORY BY 9 POINTS TO 3 By Telegraph.—Press Association, Whangarei, September <5. The Wanganui' Itugby touring team paid its first visit to No’rth Auckland today, and met a representative fifteen from the peninsula. The weather turned out very wet, but notwithstanding the heavy ground and greasy ball 2000 onlookers were treated to a fairly fast game. The first score camo three minutes after the start for Wanganui, when McLean, aided by a strong north-east wind, kicked a penalty goal. In the second quarter the visitors notched a try through the agency of Hall, who seized the opportunity of a misfield by the local full-back. They also succeeded in gaining another try in the third quarter, Harrington breaking away with the ball at his toe from halfway, scoring after a nice effort. The final quarter was marked by repeated onslaughts of the northerners, and Wanganui failed after an excellent defence to keep their line intact.
