Meteorological Office, Wellington, September 5, 4 p.m

The cyclone has moved away eastward. A deep depression of the southern type is located over the western lasman Sea and advancing eastward.

Moderate southerly winds at first from Cook Strait northwards, but northerly winds, gradually becoming general and freshening, gale force being reached in and south of Cook Strait. Rough seas between Akaroa and East Cape. Elsewhere smooth .to moderate, but rising south of Cape Egmont. freshening • northerly winds to gales and rising seas in the eastern lasman Sea.

Weather temjwrarily fair, but gradually becoming unsettled, with rain in districts with a westerly aspect, and extending latei to other parts. Temporarily milder in eastern districts.
