MIRAMAR LADIES’ CLUB OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP The Miramar lafiies championship opened in inelement weather yesterday. Some good rounds were played, the outstanding player for the day being Miss Gambrill with an 86 in the morning, and 88 in the afternoon. Other good rounds were done by Miss V. Upham, last year’s champion, playing a 90 in the morning round, and Mrs. Collinson, New Zealand lady champion, Mrs. Shailer Weston. Mrs. Menzies, Mrs. Spiers, Miss M. Ward, Miss G. Upham, and Mrs. King, the above ladies qualifying. The draw for the championship is as follows, starting time :— 9 a.m.—Miss Gambrill plays Miss G. Upham. 9.4. —Mrs. Collinson plays Miss M. MEETING OF NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL The monthly meeting of the New Zealand Golf Council was held on Alonday. when there were present Alessrs. W. E. A. Gill (chairman), 11. R. Balneavis, W. A. Kiely, Al. J. Crombie, and G. O. Sutton (secretary). The six months’ leave of absence granted to Air. A. J. Abbott when he went to England, having expired, it was necessary to appoint a new member of the council in his place, and Air. L. O. H. Tripp was unanimously elected to fill the vacancy. The audited statement of accounts at July 31, 1928, was adopted and ordered to be printed and circulated with the annual report, a draft of which was also approved by the meeting. It was resolved that a sub-committee meet on Friday, September 7, to allot national handicaps to all applicants who intend entering for the open or amateur championships.
