CHRISTCHURCH FIRE

FURNITURE WORKSHOPS DAMAGED. Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, September 4. The whole of the back portion of the premises of Mr. J. M. Mitchell, furniture maker, 535 Colombo Street, was burned late last night. The Central Fire Brigade found the premises in the firm hold of a fire which had started in the upholstery and polishing departments, which contained a good deal of inflammable material. A brick wall checked the spread of the flames to the valuable stock in the portion fronting Colombo Street. The buildings and stock were insured in'the Northern Office.
