An amusing incident occurred at the fancy dress ball held at Dargaville the other night, at which several visiting hockey-players were present (states the “Northern Advocate”). Two Whangarei ladies who did not take ball dresses with them attended in their hockey-playing clothes, and there was great consternation when they were both given “highly commended” by the judges of the fancy dresses.
