After about two and a-half hours’ hearing of the case set down for the whole of one day in the Supreme Court, the first witness left the box (relates the “Southland Times”). His Honour Mr. Justice Ostler asked wearily: “How many witnesses have you?” Counsel for. the prosecution: “I am sorry 1 am going to give your Honour a shock, f have ten.’ Counsel for the defence: “We have seven, sir.” His Honour was very resigned. '’Well, at this rate the case is going to last over four days.” he said. The Court then adjourned, and as far as the public was concerned did not resume, for alter lengthy discussion in chambers a settlement was reached.
