NEW CLUB ROOM

PALMERSTON COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS Palmerston North, September 1. The now club room of tlio Palmerston North branch of the Commercial Travellers’ Association, situated in the new building of the Cosmopolitan Club, was officially opened this afternoon by the president of the Wellington Association (Mr. A. Jacobs). There was a large gathering of the members. Mr. 11. Hodgson, president of the Palmerston North branch, presided, and extended a welcome to the visitors. When first the commercial travellers of Palmerston North gathered together, be stated, they met in a sample room, and later graduated to the room recently vacated. Members were now looking forward to happy times in the new club room. The chairman reminded members that the Commercial Travellers’ Association stood to help those who could not help themselves, and pointed out that they had been responsible for raising considerable sums of money for various charities. In performing the opening ceremony, Mr Jacobs stated that the efforts of the Palmerston North branch for charity were as. good as any in New Zealand, which said a great deal for the efforts of the comparatively small association in the town. Had it not been for the president and officers of; the Cosmopolitan Club, Mr. Jacobs pointed out, the association would not have bad such a lino room as they had to-day, and tire thanks of the comIncrcial travellers were due to these gentlemen for the consideration shown. He congratulated tlie president of the Palmerston North branch on having obtained such a club room, and declared it officially open, stating that he hoped that it would be tlie means of inaugurating bigger efforts on the part of (lie Palmerston North commercial travellers, and that it would be the. means of their enjoying better ..Social comforts than had been possible in tlie past. Tie proposed the healllt of all commercial travellers domiciled in Palmerston North, which was honoured in enthusiastic fashion.
