PERSONAL ITEMS. Mrs. A. E. Hunt, of Tuihape, who has been in Wellington for the Plunket Conference, has returned home. Mrs. A. Brockett returned to Blenheim yesterday from Wellington. Miss Marjorie Stuton, of Wellington, is at present visiting her sister, Mrs. Spencer Booth, of Dannevirke. Madame Denniss, who has been adjudicating at the Gisborne Competitions, returned to Napier a few days ago and has left for Wellington. Miss Rosalind Atkinson, who has been studying dramatic art in London, has secured an engagement with the "5.0.5.” company which Is touring the provinces. The play is still running in London at St. James’s .Theatre, under the management of Gilbert Miller and Gerald du Maurier. Mr. and Mrs. John Hodgkinson, of Point Chevalier, Auckland, celebrated their golden wedding on Thursday. They were married in St. John’s Church, Napier, 50 years ago by the Rev. De Berdt Hovell, and until a few years ago were reridents of long standing of Port Ahuriri and Napier

Mrs. M. A. E. Campbell and Miss J. Campbell, of Havelock North have left for Sydney to attend .he Eucharistic Congress.

Mrs. G.. McNair, of Wellington, and Miss Margaret McNair left Auckland on Wednesday by he Port Huon for England. Miss McNair recently passed the entrance examination to St. Hugh’s College, Ov rd University, and she will be away for about three years studying at the.university. Before she left her old school-fellows at Nga Tawa School gave Miss McNair a farewell. Many farewell parties were given for her and M". McNair in Wellington.

The Wellington, Rotorua, and Bush ladies’ hockey team are competing in the hockey tournament at Timaru. Miss R. A. Kitto is visiting Timaru as New Zealand delegate to the hockey tournament.

Mrs. P. Ferrier Watson, Remuera. returned to Auckland last week from a visit to Wellington.

Mrs. R. C. Steele, of Southland Road, Hastings, has her sister Miss Spence, of Wellington, staying with her.

Mrs. Magill, Miss R. Magill, and Miss Wood, will return from Rotorua to-day.

Miss C. Lovell-Smith, of Wellington, is spending her vacation at het home, “Midway," Upper Riccarton, Christchurch.

Mrs. Crawshaw, of Christchurch, anf her son. who have been visiting Mrs. D. Isaacs at Eastbourne, left last night on their .return to Christchurch. Miss Ruth Haggitt. of Christchurch, has returned from a visit to Welling ten. where she was the guest of Mrs F. P. Frazer.

Mrs. E. Helps, of Havelock North, has returned from Wellington. Dr. and Mrs. C Hand Newton, of Christchurch, who have been visiting England, are returning to New Zealand in the Aorangi, and are expected to arrive in Christchurch on September 12.

Mrs. James Hannah leaves to-day for 5 holiday in Auckland with her two children. Miss Haward, of the Bedford University, England, who is undertaking Miss Alice Candy’s duties at Canterbury College, has arrived in Christchurch, having travelled from England by the Corinthic. Misses Monra and Edna Greenslade, who have been spending a holiday with Mrs. S. L. Charters, Fitzherbert Avenue, Palmerston North, have now returned to their home in Dunedin. Mrs. J. M. McLean, of Wellington, and her two children are spending the school holidays at Featherston, and are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Tait. The first marriage since 1779 in the ancient proprietorial chapel in Steane Park, near Brackley, Northampton shire, was celebrated there on July 13. Captain R. H. Fox, late of the Royal Artillery, son of the late Mr. W. B Fox, of Christchurch. New Zealand was married to Miss Cicely Harman, niece of Mr. Walter Norris, of Steane Park. Mr. and Mrs. Frank McLeod, of Hastings, motored to Wellington on a holiday visit last week. Mrs. G. Dyer accompanied them. Mrs. J.
